Domain Name Registration
Australian domain names (.com.au, .net.au etc.)
Global domain names (.com, .net etc.)
Domain Names are $25.00 per domain per year for all registrations or renewals.
Transfer of registration is free and we will then notify you when your domain is due to expire.
There is no cost for DNS and no other hidden charges.
Why do domain prices vary between providers?
There are two reasons: some people charge too much; some charge too little. A domain name is always a domain name. When you buy a domain name you are paying for an entry in a database with a domain authority. Which authority depends on the domain type. Australian .au domains are controlled by AuDa. We strongly advise reading their website if you are buying a domain name.
Why do some providers charge too little?
The question should be 'why does it seem that some providers charge too little?' The answer is that they don't really. Some domain providers advertise extremely low prices for domains, but have a complex structure of additional fees. Typically, you will pay a very low price for a domain and then be asked for 5 times that amount for DNS configuration that you will be forced to take and sometimes a similar amount if you try to transfer the domain to another provider. Often the same providers will also lock domain transfer meaning that if you don't pay their outragous DNS fees you will be left with an untrasferable and unusable domain.
Why do some providers charge too much?
Mostly, they are being oppurtunistic. The expensive providers are typically competing with the actual cost of the seemingly cheap providers. Don't however assume that a more expensive provider is completely above board. It is just a trend.
So, is your price fair?
Yes, but we dont make money selling domains. This is a courtesy service that we offer to our development customers, although we do extended it to everyone.
What is DNS?
The internet identifies computers by unique numbers called IP addresses. IP's are easy for computers to use, but hard for people to remember. To overcome this the internet use another system based on domain names. When you type in a domain name a server at your ISP will look in the authority's database for the IP address and DNS record for that domain. Your computer is then directed to the IP address that correspondes to the domain you wanted.
Usually, to make things faster, if the DNS for that domain has been requested by your ISP in the last few days then they will give you the recent DNS record which they will have stored. This is called keeping it in a cache. For this reason changes to your hsoting sometimes takes a few days to reach everyone.
